Adrenaline pumped. His breath ragged. He ran and hid behind an overturned table. Sanzo was tired of this game of cat and mouse, and he was pissed off.

“Damn it! Where is he?” he muttered to himself.

Sweat slid down his cheek then down his neck into his collar.

He peaked around the edge and saw it: a flash of light.

“Got you!” Sanzo steadied his breath, aimed, and fired.

The next instance his laser tag alarm sounded.

Hakkai chuckled, “Got you, Sanzo.”

“Shit!”

Sanzo turned to see Hakkai standing in the one place he couldn't see from his position.

Gojyo did not know what to do. He fucked up and walked on eggshells every time he saw Hakkai, which was not often. When he did see Hakkai, Hakkai was with that damn monk or Goku and that damn monk.

Gojyo stopped by Hakkai's place several times, but Hakkai never seemed to be home.

Damn it, Hakkai. Where the hell are you?

Gojyo did not want to go to Sanzo's to see Hakkai, but he had no other choice.

He found Sanzo and Goku at the temple gates.

“Hey, Gojyo! Where have you been?” Goku shouted. “You just missed Hakkai.”

“Hurry up, Gojyo,” Goku half-whined. “I don’t want Sanzo to catch us.”

“Shut up,” Gojyo snarled. “I heard ya the first hundred times.”

Goku squirmed. He feared what Sanzo would do if he caught them.

“Damn!” Gojyo grunted. “Tighter than I imagined.”

Outside the hotel room door, they could hear Sanzo and Hakkai's voices drawing closer. When they heard the jangle of keys, they froze.

“Gojyo, what do we do?”

Sanzo and Hakkai walked in.

“What the hell are you two up to?” snarled Sanzo as he marched over and yanked his glasses lens and frame out of Gojyo's hands.

They rolled into town and got rooms in the first inn they found. Luckily they were able to get four rooms.

Gojyo ditched the guys for some relief. He followed a couple of hotties into a bar. The place was packed with young, beautiful women.

Gojyo couldn't believe his luck.

He pursued a brunette and struck out. He tried a blonde; struck out again. After the seventh failed try, Gojyo left the bar. He never had such bad luck.

On the way out, he noticed the bar’s name: Kanzeon's.

Gojyo laughed.

Guess I’m taking a long shower tonight, he thought.

“Come on, Yaone, let’s get changed!” Lirin dragged Yaone in the women’s changing room at the onsen.

“Lady Lirin, it’s unladylike to pull someone anywhere.”

“Huh?”

Yaone was about to repeat herself, when she noticed Lirin had stripped off half her clothes.

Yaone blushed. “Lady Lirin, put a towel. You cannot go naked.”

“Fine.”

Yaone grabbed a towel and changed quickly.

Lirin dragged Yaone to the hot spring.

Yaone blushed from head-to-toe then ran back into the changing room.

“I thought Yaone wanted to do this, Big Brother.”

Kougaiji turned away as his cheeks reddened from the sight of Yaone.

Sanzo and Hakkai lingered at the breakfast table, finishing their respective coffee and tea. Gojyo and Goku ran off to do last minute supply shopping under penalty of a bullet between their eyes.

“Where’s Sha Gojyo?” roared an irate woman. “He deflowered my baby.”

Hakkai sighed; Sanzo snarled, “Idiot!”

The mother heard Sanzo and focused his companion. "You!" she howled as she grabbed the front of Hakkai’s shirt. "You will pay for what you did!"

"Madam, I’m not–"

She yanked Hakkai out of his chair.

Sanzo steadied his revolver on the woman. "He's not damn Gojyo; release him now!"

“Where is he?”

“Where’s who, Lirin?” Yaone asked.

“Droopy-eyes,” she replied. “Big brother, I can take him.”

Kougaiji looked annoyed. “Who?”

“DROOPY-EYES!”

“Lirin, I don’t know who your ‘droopy eyes’ is.” Kougaiji said as calmly as he could, “We are looking for Sanzo and his companions.”

“Yeah, Droopy-eyes!” Lirin squealed.

Kougaiji turned away from Lirin. His palm hit his forehead.

Yaone turned away to giggle.

Dokugakouji tapped Kougaiji on the shoulder. “Kou, I had no luck. It’s like they vanished.”

“That’s impossible,” Kougaiji spat.

“They do have a habit of leaving a trail,” Yaone remarked.

Dokugakouji laughed. “They certainly do.”

Not gonna drop it, Gojyo thought as he ran through the streets.

He arrived home with the package intact.

“Gojyo, where have you been?” Jien rushed to his brother. “What have you been up to?”

Gojyo shoved the package into his brother’s hands.

Jien stared at it. “What’s this?”

“Open it.”

Jien opened the package to find a crimson dragon.

“Where’d you get the money for this?”

“The money you gave me.”

Jien was gobstruck for a moment then ruffled Gojyo’s hair.

“Thank you. Next time, keep the money to buy something for yourself.”

Gojyo’s smile lit up his face.

Sanzo sat on the windowsill of the room, staring out at the rain. “What are you still doing here, Hakkai?” he asked in an unusually quiet tone.

“It was raining like this when my Kannan took her life with my knife. I did everything I could to save her, took the lives of the guilty and innocent alike, but it still wasn't enough.”

Sanzo looked at Hakkai.

Tears were streaming down Hakkai's cheeks.

“My master died protecting me on a night like this. I was a kid, not strong enough to protect myself.”

Sanzo returned to staring at the rain.

Thanks to his Mother, the streets were his second home. He knew every hidey-hole and everyplace he could get patched up. He had been noting these spots since he was five.

Gojyo was ten now. He knew he could take these older boys.

He led his pursuers on a zig-zag chase to a dead end alley he prepared for such an eventuality.

“We gotcha now, freak?”

Gojyo grabbed a pipe from its hiding place.

“Which one of you dumbasses is first?”

It had been only two days since he overheard it. Just wandering through a toy store. His current toy, a little boy who insisted on following him, lost its shininess. He needed something new to play with.

He was over by the stuffed bears and bunnies dolls, when he heard it:

"… someone's trying to revive Gyumaoh at Hotu Castle."

He looked at his floppy-eard traveling companion, a souvenir from the toy store.

"It’s just a rumor, my friend, but …" A wolfish grin graced his lips. "It's a rumor I can't resist to learn if it's true, can you?"

Once again Sanzo chose to stay in their room. He needed time away from those two idiots and their asinine antics.

He was reading his paper when he heard a chirp. He looked over and saw Hakuryuu lying on Hakkai’s bed. Sanzo forgot he was not alone in the room.

Hakuryuu looked confused.

“They went shopping.”

Hakuryuu nodded his head then chirped again.

Sanzo looked over and saw Hakuryuu staring at him.

“No.”

Hakuryuu flew over to the table besides Sanzo and chirped.

“No.”

Hakuryuu tugged on the newspaper.

“Tch.”

Hakuryuu chirped happily as he curled up in Sanzo’s lap.

TRIPLE DRABBLE - Challenge #6: Mind Your Own Business

Challenge: Mind Your Own Business

The evening forest air was crisp. There was a full moon illuminating the night. Hakkai was at the campfire, cooking dinner. Gojyo leaned back against a tree and enjoyed a smoke. They tensed for a split second when they heard someone approach then relaxed as Goku entered their campsite.

“Hakkai, Gojyo, have you seen Sanzo? He’s been gone for a while, and I can’t find him.”

“He’s probably taking his frustration out on something beside you, so don’t worry. Or do you want to know where so you can peek, ya pervert?”

“You’re the pervert, jerk!”

“I’m a pervert AND a jerk? Take that back!”

“No! It's true!”

“Oh? Prove it, ya stupid monkey.”

“I'm not stupid!”

“Prove it!”

Hakkai let them argue.

It was a good distraction for Goku. Otherwise, he would continue his search.

Hakkai knew why Sanzo stepped away: today was the anniversary of his Master’s death.

He learned this by accident the previous year.

Like this night, they were camping in a forest. Hakkai was foraging for anything to supplement their meager supplies and stumbled upon Sanzo.

* * * * *

“Don’t shoot!” Hakkai held up his hands.

Sanzo stood up, but did not stop pointing his revolver at Hakkai. “What are you doing here?”

“Looking for herbs and other plants that could refill our supplies. I didn't mean to intrude. I'm sorry.” Hakkai lowered his hands. “Sanzo, could you lower your gun, please? You’re making me nervous.”

Sanzo put away his gun and exhaled.

“This is the first time I've seen you chant, since we first met.” Hakkai remarked.

Sanzo glared at Hakkai for a moment then withdrew his lighter and a pack of cigarettes from his sleeve.

Hakkai silently watched as Sanzo lit up and took several drags.

“My Master died on this day.”

“Ah.” Hakkai turned to walk away and said over his shoulder, “I’ll keep Goku occupied so you can finish in peace.”

“Don’t bother. I'm done.”

As they walked back, Sanzo asked, “She died around now, didn't she?”

* * * * *

“Prove you’re not a perv!”

“Only after you prove you’re not stupid!”

Goku and Gojyo stopped arguing when Sanzo entered the campsite.

“Sanzo! Where have you been?”

Sanzo whacked Goku with his fan.

“None of your damn business.”

Goku was very bored. Sanzo was off again without him thanks to the Sanbutsushin. Worse the monks imprisoned Goku in Sanzo's quarters; an important priestess was visiting.

Goku climbed out the window the moment it was unguarded.

Once free, he found a bald-headed kid in novice robes just about his age. "Hi, I'm Goku."

"I'm Yue."

The two talked and laughed until dusk, when they overheard the monks’ angry voices nearby.

Yue sighed. "They're coming to take me back to Priestess Xiu.” She kissed Goku on the lips. "Thank you, Goku." She ran toward the noise and didn't look back.

The archeologist thrilled at the documents he'd unearthed from GyuMaoh's castle ruins. Now his museum might have explanations for the battle that destroyed the god-like man.
He read the ancient pages written by some doctor, which highlighted a mission sanctioned by gods to stop GyuMaoh - the journey of a priest, and his three demon friends, and a battle of magical scriptures. Doodles of bunnies filled the notes. The archeologist sighed, and placed the notes under a file for artistic history. Obviously, the notes were someone's daydreams. Everyone in Shangri-La knew there were no such things as magic and demons.

My first drabble, and apparently I had the same sort of interpretation of "labor." Hope that's okay.

Challenge: Labor

Gojyo’s face was paler than Hakkai had ever seen it. Which would have made Hakkai laugh if he hadn't been so focused on the tiny bundle in his hands.

“It’s a girl.” He smiled up at Yaone. “A healthy baby girl.”

Yaone’s lower lip quivered. She held out her arms and Hakkai handed her the newborn, getting a little teary himself when Jien knelt down beside her to stroke his daughter’s cheek.

Hakkai went to Gojyo’s side.

“That’s a baby,” Gojyo whispered.

"Yes," Hakkai said.

"My niece."

"Yes."

Gojyo tucked a strand of hair behind his ear. "You're gonna help me spoil her, right? And teach her all the stuff that uncles teach?"

"Absolutely," Hakkai promised, and Gojyo smiled.

i hope no one minds if i repost a drabble from lj's 100_roadtrips. the following is the first drabble i ever wrote, so it's special to me. i hope you enjoy it.

Challenge: Labor

Hakkai took a closer look at the expectant mother. From the fear and confusion on the girl’s face, he saw this was her first child.

Goku asked, “Hakkai, what's going on? Why did she pee on the floor?”

Sanzo hit the monkey. “Idiot.”

Hakkai chuckled. “She didn't pee, Goku; her water broke. She’s going to have a baby.”

Goku was more confused. “Isn't that the same thing?”

The monk hit the monkey a few more times.

Gojyo leaned close to Hakkai. “You know what you’re doing?”

Hakkai gave the kappa his patented smile. “Haven’t a clue.”

Sanzo muttered, “Shit.”

Double Drabble - Non-Challenge: "Where’d I Drop My Pants?"

Gojyo squinted his eyes against the early morning sun. As he tried to get out of bed, he learned his arm was in some woman’s hold. He carefully extricated himself so as not to wake her.

Memories of the previous night slowly filtered into his mind. Gojyo had made a killing at the gambling house, and this sweet, shy cocktail waitress, lying in the bed, was his good luck charm. He took his time wooing her over the past few weeks and never expected her to accept his advances. She felt like the type that would wait for her wedding night.

Gojyo looked at her. He wanted to remember how the early morning light played on her face and her dark, unbound hair.

Lost in the memory of how her soft, pink lips tasted when he first kissed her, the young girl rolled over and said something in her sleep. Those words shocked him: "I love you, Gojyo."

He stood beside the bed, stunned. Gojyo couldn't believe what he heard. She wasn't the first to say those three little words to him. He knew they really didn't mean anything … until now. Plus she knew his name.

Gojyo never bothered to learn hers.

Fueled by his discomfort, he turned away from the beautiful young girl he had deflowered and scanned the room.

"Damn," Gojyo muttered, "Where’d I drop my pants?"
